Gripping Beast Monks
The Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge is winding down and while I beat my personal goal of 400 points I'm trying to push through to an even 500. I've wracked up a few more points last week and I'm currently sitting at 477. Searching my lead pile I found a pack of Gripping Beast monks that I've been putting off painting for a while. They aren't the most exciting miniatures but will certainly get me closer to my goal.
These weren't the most challenging figures to paint up, but they'll make good bystanders or objectives for a variety of dark ages or medieval battles.
These four monks should give me an additional 20 points, putting me at 497, just one Curtgeld short of 500!

Warlord Games Numidian Cavalry
After almost a year, I've finally completed my Numidian cavalry from Warlord Games. I've had them painted for months, but delayed basing until I had enough 50mm x 50mm and 25mm x 50mm cavalry bases. These are also the first horses I painted, using the oil wipe method for shading and highlighting.
Shields are hand painted (easy to make out at close range, but look ok at table distance). The cowhide and Tanit emblem are based on the shield design from Little Big Man Studios. I'd like to paint up a full Numidian army and would probably switch to their actual decals for such a large project.

Hail Caesar Skirmish #3!
My wife and I played another Hail Caesar skirmish. The addition of my newly painted Celts brought our tiny forces up to the same point total (although I just eyeballed it when setting up the game). Having lost every Hail Caesar skirmish to date, I was hoping to eek out a win. I also wanted to add some more terrain to the field to see how it altered the battle. The Roman legionnaires would be facing off against their barbarian adversaries lurking in the dense forests of Germania. Check out our skirmish after the jump.

Hail Caesar Skirmish!
| Hail Caesar Romans ready for battle |
My buddy Mark was in town for the holidays, and with a handful of complete (or nearly complete) figures ready to go, we decided to take a shot at Hail Caesar to run through the rules, roll some dice and throw some barbarians and Romans together and see the sparks fly. Check it out after the jump...

Romans, Germans, Numidians - Progress Mid-December
| "You're gonna need a bigger box." |
I wanted to document my progress on my various ancient armies as I've made some headway since this Summer. Just a quick snap from my iPhone for now with better photos to follow when they are complete. I need to finish off the bases of the infantry with static grass and tufts, and decide on a basing scheme for the cavalry, and then I can get down to rolling some dice! I'm still sorely lacking in actual elements and missing generals for each army, but at least there will be some figures I can push around on the table.
